Victor Osimhen is currently one of the most sought-after items on the transfer market, despite agreeing to a contract extension in Naples. Now, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he is about to be tempted by Liverpool.
Italian news server Football Italia came out on Monday morning with the information that the print version of La Gazzetta dello Sport confirms Liverpool’s interest in Nigerian Osimhen.
Somewhat more specifically, representatives of the famed English outfit have reportedly contacted Osimhen’s agent Robert Calenda to explore the possibility of a potential summer transfer. However, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has set a giant price tag of €180 million.
Osimhen is now under contract at the reigning Serie A champions until the end of June 2025. De Laurentiis has previously stated that the priority for the Partenopei is to keep the Lagos native. However, should a solid offer come in, Napoli are said to be willing to negotiate.
Apart from Liverpool, other English clubs have also shown interest in the past, namely Chelsea and Manchester United. However, they have been put off by the high price tag.
Recently, however, the Italian media wrote about PSG, which was reportedly preparing an offer of 150 million euros for Naples. This is in exchange for Kylian Mbappé, who is likely to leave the club from the French capital.
Thus, both a new long-term contract and a move to another of Europe’s big clubs at an extreme price tag are in play.
Osimhen made the move to Serie A in September 2020 when Napoli snapped him up from French side Lille, for a fee of $75 million.
Since then, he has featured in 101 competitive matches in the Partenopei jersey, scoring 59 goals and adding another 14 assists on top.
