RedBird, the company that owns AC Milan, is under investigation by UEFA. The problem is owner Gerry Cardinale

The Italian media has reported in the last few dozen hours that the current owner of AC Milan, RedBird Capital Partners, is in the spotlight of UEFA. The latter is looking into links with French club FC Toulouse.

As if what is currently going on in Milan in terms of internal affairs wasn’t enough. The owner of AC Milan, or rather of the American investment group RedBird Capital Partners, Gerry Cardinale, recently sacked the club’s legend Paolo Maldini.

The latter was the technical director at the San Siro, and sporting director Ricky Massara also left with him. Cardinale’s decision angered players, fans and increased tensions within the club. The announcement that AC star Theo Hernández is up for sale didn’t help either.

Among other things, Cardinale also didn’t bother to attend Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s farewell party. Apart from these issues, Milan are also mourning the death of Silvio Berlusconi. Well, plain and simple – nobody in Milan has it easy right now.

And they won’t. As Italian news site Tuttosport reports, UEFA will next week begin investigating the links between AC Milan and FC Toulouse, which are owned by the aforementioned American company.

Both have qualified for next year’s European competitions – AC Milan for the Champions League, Toulouse for the Europa League. And what exactly is the problem now?

Because Article 5 of the UEFA regulations clearly states that two or more clubs owned by the same persons cannot both compete in Europe or the European Cup.

It was this fact that prompted UEFA to investigate the links between Milan and Toulouse, the clubs owned by Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird company.

The positions of Brighton and Union Saint-Gilloise, owned by Tony Bloom, and Aston Villa and Vitoria Guimaraes, owned by Nassef Sawiris, will also be analysed.
