The rise and fall of Aubameyang: From Barcelona star to Chelsea reject

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s career has taken an unwanted turn in recent times. While he was the darling of Barcelona fans a year ago, he is now falling short of expectations at Chelsea.

At thirty-three years of age, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s best years seem to be behind him. Yet, the Gabonese striker imagined this season in a much different way.

He is not doing well at Chelsea, having managed to score just three goals in seventeen competitive matches. All of this culminated in his exclusion from the roster for the competitive cups.

But there were no signs of such a decline. After moving to Barcelona at the beginning of last year, Aubameyang started to enjoy football again. And he has been instrumental in Barcelona’s return to the elite.

The statistics also spoke of his contribution, as he scored thirteen goals in twenty-three games. His great performances were also appreciated by the fans themselves.

However, rather surprisingly, the management announced that they would not extend Aubameyang’s contract and the Gabonese striker would go back to England. It was, however, quite a logical move given the huge competition in the Catalan side’s attack.

However, at the beginning of the year, Barcelona found themselves with another option to bring Aubameyang in. The player himself was interested in returning and the fans were hoping for the same. However, the transfer fell through immediately.

The reason is simple. Barcelona would not be able to sign Aubameyang due to ongoing financial problems. So even though there was interest from all sides, La Liga rules put a stop to the transfer.

The Gabonese will probably finish the season at a struggling Chelsea. However, he cannot be expected to stay beyond the end of the season. Chelsea are not doing well and the Gabonese striker is not happy here.
