Jiří Procházka continues his rehabilitation. To get the best possible care, he went to Las Vegas, where the UFC has its own institute. In addition, on Sunday morning, a tournament was held there, where the head of the organization Dana White met him.
The Moravian fighter was scheduled to make his first title defense in December. A rematch with Glover Teixeira awaited him, but a few days before the fight Jiri Prochazka got injured and it was clear that he was going to have a long break.
The UFC responded to the situation by agreeing to vacate the title with Prochazka to keep the division active. And it’s working out well. We’ve already seen two title fights and we have an unexpected champion.
In the battle for the belt, Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev drew with Ankalaev very angry at the judges’ verdict. And as Teixeira was preparing for the title fight, he was given the chance to fight Jamahal Hill for the vacant belt.
The fight took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Teixeira was able to cap off a sensational career. But in a five-round battle, Hill clearly outclassed him and went on to win the welterweight title.
Walk congratulated him, but warned him that he would be back. And Hill is not at all opposed to a possible fight. On the contrary. And the fans are looking forward to the Hill vs. Prochazka fight. However, despite the words of UFC boss Dana White, it was not clear that the fight would happen.
There was a lot of talk about other names Hill could face. For example, Alex Pereira, a protégé of Teixeira. But he’s already scheduled for a rematch with Israel Adesanya.
Now, however, Procházka has met with White and it seems that the Moravian doesn’t have to worry about his position at all. “I asked him how he is. Definitely no pressure on his return. I want him to take as much time as he needs to be back to 100%,” he was heard saying at the press conference.
“I don’t want to put him under any pressure to feel like he needs to get better quickly. When he’s 100%, he’ll be 100%. If all goes well, the fight with Hill is in the cards. I don’t want to give him any deadlines. The thing is, whoever holds the title when he comes back will have to face Jiri,” White said.
