Newcastle are confident of bringing Gordon in by the end of January. But the transfer of the talented Everton winger makes sense for all parties

Everton are experiencing one of the most difficult seasons in their history, yet the English media is talking about the departure of one of the team’s key figures. Specifically, Anthony Gordon, who is being lured by Newcastle United.

Everton are facing relegation from the Premier League

The alarm bells are ringing at Everton as the club faces relegation to the Championship. At the moment, they are in penultimate place with 15 points, but they are only two points behind the relegation zone. Logically, the poor results have taken their toll on coach Frank Lampard, who has been sacked, and the management is looking for a new face.

The biggest problem of the Liverpool team is without any doubt the attack, which managed to produce only 15 goals, only Wolves (12 goals) are worse.

The top scorers with three accurate goals are wingers Demarai Gray and the just mentioned Gordon. Goals were expected especially from Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, he has been struggling since the start of the season with a knee injury and hasn’t really got into form since then, scoring only one goal in the Crystal Palace net.

Neal Maupay has also been completely ineffective, scoring once against West Ham, but hasn’t scored any other goals. However, you can’t blame only the strikers when the whole team is failing.

Speculation about one of the best players in the team is a surprise to many. On the other hand, the club may very well cash in on the 21-year-old English talent and bring in more experienced players to help with the rescue.

Gordon to Newcastle

The Liverpool native was already being pursued by Chelsea and Tottenham last summer. Back then still unsuccessful and Tottenham already have an extra substitute, so he is probably out of the picture, just as the Blues brought in a winger this year.

That brings Newcastle into the picture, who according to Goal are willing to pay Everton’s asking price, which is expected to be around £50m.

Coach Eddie Howe could clearly use more competition on the left wing, where Joelinton is currently the most frequent player, but who is also used in the centre of midfield.

This transfer would make sense for many reasons and even the player himself is reportedly in favour of the move. The new coach moving to Liverpool will surely have his say as well.
