Unstoppable Naples? Diego Maradona would be proud. The team from under the Vesuvius is doing a fantastic job and Luciano Spalletti can dream of winning his first ever league title at the age of 63. It could be a third for Naples.
Too much optimism? And actually, why not? The Partenopei lead the league by a whopping 13 points after 20 rounds. Their only loss in the league came at the beginning of January to Inter, but otherwise they are unstoppable. The rivals are also losing.
Moreover, Naples are playing the best-looking football in Italy. There is a fantastic atmosphere in the team, a great togetherness, with fans and players living every minute and every moment together.
It’s as if it was written in the stars that it just has to work out now. Maradona would thus have another great reason to rejoice in football heaven after Argentina’s World Cup run. Now Naples can only deprive itself of the title. Everything is in his hands.
A win over Rome, drama until the end
On Sunday night, Naples faced another tough match. Visiting the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona were AS Roma, who are looking to challenge for a Champions League place. Jose Mourinho’s charges started the match passively, but especially at the end of the match they bit hard.
Already in the 17th minute Victor Osimhen scored for Naples after a beautiful action, in the 75th minute Stephan El Shaarawy equalised at 1:1 and it was set for a big drama. Rome had several promising chances but failed to convert any of them.
Moreover, Naples had neither Osimhen nor Kvaratkhelia on the pitch. However, even the Partenopei substitutes have an important role to play and Giovanni Simenone showed it, adding the winning goal in the 86th minute.
Mourinho sang the praises of Osimhen, but…
If we were to name Napoli’s main stars, we have to mention Stanislav Lobotka, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen. Lobotka adds calmness to the game, Kvaratskhelia collects assists and Osimhen scores goals.
Osimhen has 14 goals and 4 assists in the 16 games he has played in Serie A this season alone. An excellent calling card for the 24-year-old marksman. There can be no doubt that he is already a world class striker.
Moreover, his contribution is not only in goals. He’s not egotistical, he lives with the team. He wins many balls, keeps even more in difficult positions, and defenders have to foul him a lot to stop him. He’s just a constant threat.
That’s what Jose Mourinho notices too. “He is on the same level as Drogba, however Didier did not simulate. If Victor changes that, it will be fine. If I was at a rich club, I would definitely buy him,” the Portuguese expressed in a press conference.
“If one day he goes to England, he has to change. In Italy he suffers from this behaviour, but in the Premier League he would pay heavily. But he scored a beautiful goal for us, I told him that after the game. As well as that he shouldn’t be falling so much. He is afantastic player,” he added.
