Is Messi thinking about the end of his career? I’ve achieved everything, there’s nothing left to conquer. One big circle is coming full circle, he says

At the recent World Cup in Qatar, Lionel Messi fulfilled his big dream and won the trophy he had been waiting for his whole career. And the Argentine nation can hail him as its next football god after Diego Maradona. In a recent interview, the Argentine playing legend admitted that there is nothing more to conquer from his perspective.

When Lionel Messi hoisted the World Cup winner’s trophy over his head in Qatar on December 18, 2022, he had, in fact, already achieved everything.

The World Cup championship was, in fact, the last thing that had been missing from his career in terms of team achievements, and until then had continued to elude him. However, Messi was missing two international trophies as part of his achievements.

The first one he won in 2021 when he won the Copa América with Argentina, the second one at the World Cup in Qatar, as we wrote above. At the recent championship, however, he was also the best player of the tournament. At the World Cup in Qatar, he recorded seven goals and three assists.

Notably, the top scorer of this championship was Kylian Mbappé, who scored eight goals. That’s one more than the Argentine football god.

Messi recently took part in an interview on the UrbanaPlay podcast, in which the 35-year-old admits that the World Cup triumph came at the perfect time to cap off his illustrious career.

“I think if I had to choose a moment, it would be this one, ” Messi said when asked which moment in his career he cherishes the most.

“It happened at the end of my career, it comes full circle. With the national team, I achieved everything I always dreamed of. I achieved everything I could in my career, even individually. It was about closing my career in a unique way,” Messi explained in the above interview.

“When I started, I never imagined that all this would happen to me, and getting to this moment was the best thing. I have nothing to complain about and I couldn’t ask for more. We won the Copa America and the World Cup, there is nothing else left,” he added.

Afterwards, Messi admitted that he regrets that Maradona was not able to witness Argentina’s World Cup victory. The Albiceleste icon died in November 2020 at the age of 60.

“I would have been happy if Diego had given me the trophy, or at least seen it all, to see Argentina as world champions, with everything he wanted and how he loved the national team. I think from above he was – like many people who love me – strong,” concluded the Argentina and Barcelona legend.

Of course, Messi has not yet made anything official about the end of his active career. However, based on this and other interviews or other Messi communications, it is obvious and perfectly logical what thoughts are slowly but surely going through his mind.
