I’m coming for you! Procházka and his trainer react to Teixeira’s fight with new champion Hill
The first fight after Jiri Prochazka gave up due to a belt injury did not decide the new champion. But the second one did. The king of the welterweight division is now Jamahal Hill. How did the Moravian fighter and his trainer Martin Karaivanov react to his fight with Glover Teixeira?
The first fight after Jiri Prochazka gave up due to a belt injury did not decide the new champion. But the second one did. The king of the welterweight division is now Jamahal Hill. How did the Moravian fighter and his trainer Martin Karaivanov react to his fight with Glover Teixeira?
Jiri Prochazka was injured just a few days before his rematch with Glover Teixeira and therefore before his first title defense. Also due to pressure from the UFC, he gave up the title so as not to block the division.
Thus, Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz fought for the vacant belt at the tournament where he was to face the Brazilian for the second time. But their fight ended in a draw, so it was Teixeira who got his chance, and his opponent was surprisingly Jamahal Hill.
The match took place on Brazilian soil on Sunday morning. The American fighter was the favorite, although many bettors believed more in Teixeira. But it was a one-sided ride from start to finish.
Hill landed great shots, Teixeira dismantled him with great combinations and hard kicks. In addition, he defended almost all takedown attempts, and he didn’t let the Brazilian dominate on the ground. He put on a masterful performance and clearly won on points.
The Brazilian legend landed over 200 significant strikes in the fight. In his post-fight interview, Teixeira laid down the gloves in the center of the octagon and retired.
This earned him words of appreciation, including from Prochazka’s trainer Martin Karaivanov. He called Teixeira a monster and at the same time congratulated the new champion.
He added that it was a great honour for him to coach Procházka against Teixeira.
Procházka himself did not comment on the fight. He only congratulated the new champion, whom he of course warned that he would be back to face him.
Let’s hope it’s soon. Hill thrilled the fans with his performance and those overseas are also very keen on the idea of them fighting each other. Hopefully we’ll see it soon. But health comes first and recovery must not be rushed.
