Manchester United find a replacement for Ronaldo, Weghorst already heading for medical

Erik Ten Hag has made no secret of the fact that he would like to fill the missing spot at striker after Ronaldo’s departure. It looks like his wish will be granted. According to reports from well-known sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, Dutch playmaker Wout Weghorst is due to head to England for a medical later today.

The possible transfer of Wout Weghorst has been widely speculated in the previous days. His situation was a bit problematic as he is currently on loan from Burnley of England to Besiktas of Turkey.

So for United the negotiations were not easy, because they had to agree with two clubs and moreover with the player himself.

Although most of the negotiations were already at an advanced stage, it was expected whether the Turkish club would give the green light to the whole transfer.

And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, that move happened today. Weghorst is expected to move to England in the coming hours, where he will undergo a medical and, in addition, sign a contract. The Turkish club is expected to receive €3 million for the entire transfer.

The fact that the transfer of the nearly two-meter striker will take place was indicated by the celebration in the last game. Weghorst ran behind the fans after scoring the goal and waved symbolically at them.

Weghorst had his best season in 2020/21, scoring a superb 20 goals in 34 games for German side Wolfsburg.

However, he didn’t fare too well after his move to the Premier League, scoring only twice in the 20 league games he played.

He found his shooting comfort again at Besiktas, where he averages 0.5 goals per game. Whether he can transfer his goalscoring form to United will have to wait and see.
