Few people doubt Patrik Schick’s footballing qualities. However, his career is constantly spoiled by various injuries, because of which he cannot show the required performance in the long term. Why did he last appear at the beginning of November and when will he be healthy?
Patrik Schick could be satisfied with the past season. His Bayer Leverkusen finished third in the Bundesliga and he became the league’s second top scorer, surpassing even Erling Haaland.
However, his satisfaction ended there. Leverkusen deteriorated significantly and were on the verge of relegation in the first half of the autumn. Schick was not doing well, and he was still not fully healthy.
Because of this, he missed two games in October and finally played his last game on 1 November. After that, he didn’t appear in the lineup once and fans are worried about him again.
“He is working hard and intensively to be not only healthy but also fit. He is taking small steps forward,” Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes told Bild newspaper.
“We expect to see what Patrik can do again in the second half of the season, ” he added. Rudi Völler, the club’s former chief executive and current member of the shareholders’ committee, sees it similarly.
“Everyone at the club is looking forward to Patrik playing and celebrating on the pitch again. It’s obvious we need Patrik and his goals,” he said.
Leverkusen’s next match is scheduled for January 7, when they face Venice in a preparation match. Schick is almost certainly not expected to play in that game.
The Bundesliga doesn’t start until the end of January, and Leverkusen will be looking to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach, who are four places ahead of Bayer, at home on January 22.
