The Czech Republic will again be represented in the women’s singles final at the French Open. For the fourth time in the last eight years. The latest contribution to the amazing record of Czech tennis is the performance of Karolina Muchova. The twenty-six-year-old tennis player is reaping well-deserved praise for her performance at Roland Garros, which she crowned with a victory in the semi-finals against Belarusian Sabalenka.

Tennis players are the jewel of Czech sport. On Saturday, Karolina Muchova will be the fourth Czech to play a final match at Roland Garros since 2015. Only the USA can boast such a record, apart from the Czech Republic.

This amazing streak was started eight years ago by Lucie Safarova. Back then, she fell to Serena Williams in three sets. Even the second final with the Czech representation lacked the final joy of triumph from our point of view. Markéta Vondroušová did not get a chance against Australian Barty in 2019.

Finally, the third Czech participation in the last match at the Paris Grand Slam ended with a big victory. Two years ago, Barbora Krejcikova reached the top after a three-set battle with Russia’s Pavlyuchenkova. Since Friday, it is clear that Karolína Muchová will join the elite group of Czech finalists at the French Open.

Praise from all sides

Karolína Muchová is an undeniable talent, that’s not news. For a long time, health problems have prevented her from reaching the highest spheres of world tennis. Recently, she has been fit and has proved with her results at the French Open what a great tennis player she is.

For those who know her best, perhaps she hasn’t come as a surprise. Her manager Tomas Patera understandably wishes her current success. Karolína Muchová deserves to be this high. “When she is healthy, she belongs in the top ten,” he says of the Olomouc native.

The semi-final win against Sabalenka was not easy. Both tennis players won one set in the tiebreak and the Czech player turned the tiebreaker 2:5. The Belarusian had a match point on Muchova’s serve, but from that moment on she did not lose a single ball on her serve, twice won her opponent’s serve and now she is receiving well-deserved praise from all sides.

Former world number one Chris Evert found only words of praise for the Czech player after her turnaround in the semifinal match. She praised Muchova’s service and especially her movement on the court. “I like the variety of her game. She can force you to leave your comfort zone with shorts, choppy backhands or crossing to the net,” she summed up the positive opinion of many tennis fans about Karolina Muchová’s game.

Another Eurosport expert Mats Wilander compared the Czech to Ashleigh Barty. Let’s recall that the latter turned her final debut at Roland Garros four years ago into her first Grand Slam title. Karolina Muchova will make her final debut against Poland’s Swiatek on Saturday afternoon. Let’s hope she emulates Australia’s Barty.
