Orlen leaves Alfa Romeo or New sponsors for midfield teams. Kubica officially retires from F1
Formula 1 is approaching the start of another season, and even this time we can’t talk about any hibernation behind the scenes. We already know the line-ups, including the bosses of all the teams, and now the situation around the title sponsors is being monitored. Alfa Romeo and Alpha Tauri have new donors for this season.
We’ll start with the latter. The latter “took over” from its competitor Orlen, which is also known from the Czech petrol station network. It was the petroleum company that was strongly associated with the person of Robert Kubica, who stood behind Kuan-yu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas as a reserve driver.
However, the Polish driver is now retiring, as confirmed by Slovakian commentator Števo Eisele on his Instagram. The author of twelve podium finishes in F1 has had his career blighted by a major accident which prevented him from showing his full potential.
Orlen will now wear Nyck de Vries and Júki Cunoda on their overalls and monoposts. Only the season itself will answer how high they will take it. The appetite to ride good results is definitely high after a failed 2022.
The team where Charles Leclerc, for example, started his career, already has a new sponsor. Stake, a company specialising in gambling, has joined forces with Alfa Romeo. Specifically, it is a cryptocurrency casino and betting company.
Cryptocurrencies in particular have become a big topic in recent days in connection with the queen of motorsport. But in a rather negative sense. Let’s see how Stake’s partnership with Alfa Romeo develops not only in 2023.
In motorsport, we will meet the aforementioned company with the Brazilian Fittipaldi brothers, and in sport with English Premier League football clubs, Everton and Watford. In the sports world, the company founded six years ago is already a stable member.
Whether the contract, which is expected to be a record-breaking one for Alfa Romeo, will bring the desired forward movement, we will have to wait and see. What remains clear, however, is that nothing is certain in Formula 1 and that sponsors can migrate in unexpected directions.
