A lie is not an opinion, fear is not a weapon, evil does not have its day today! How does the sports public react to the election results?

After a close first round, and even a clear second round, Petr Pavel became the new President of the Czech Republic. A large part of the public understandably sees his victory as a major defeat for populism, but how is the sporting public reacting to Pavel’s victory?

To use sports terminology, if the result of the first round of the presidential election between the two candidates was even, the second round ended in a clear debacle.

The winner of this year’s election was Petr Pavel, who boasted a truly huge lead in the vast majority of the counting. And the result?

After Václav Havel, Václav Klaus and Miloš Zeman, Petr Pavel is now the fourth president of the independent Czech Republic.

As you can see in the attached Twitter post, Pavel was voted for by 3 358 926 citizens of our country, while Babiš was trusted by just over 2 million and 400 thousand people.

“I would like to thank everyone who voted for me, but at the same time I would like to thank those who did not vote for me but came to the polls because they made it clear that they respect democracy and care about how this country will look like,” the new president of the Czech Republic said at a press conference.

He added that values such as truth, dignity, respect and humility won the election. Even Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová came to congratulate Pavel. On his Twitter account, F1 commentator Jiří Košta commented on the personal congratulations.

The results of the presidential election have not passed almost anyone by and of course the sporting public is also reacting to them.

The public reaction

For example, Tomáš Syrovátka, as the 1st vice-chairman of the board of directors of Slavia Prague, called Danuša Nerudová the heroine of the election. Darina Vymětalíková also wrote an apt comment on her.

Representatives of football and hockey also decided to express their opinion. Tomáš Richtr, another Formula 1 commentator, and Radek Farský, a Czech basketball player, also added their views. A very original commentary, as usual, was added by Neobjektivní Novinář.
