A truly special evening! 18 September marked the winning of four titles for Czech tennis

On Sunday, 18 September, Czech tennis achieved something unprecedented. Probably no one will be surprised that it was once again the women who did it. Linda Fruhvirtová won her first WTA title, and Brenda Fruhvirtová broke her own record. Kateřina Siniaková also conquered the big event after five years and to make matters worse, Tereza Martincová won her first doubles title alongside Marta Kostyuková.

Let’s start with the tournament in Portoroz, Slovenia, where most of the action happened. It was here on Sunday that Siniakova emerged victorious from the final. She’s waited five years for the title.

She was definitely not the paper or odds-on favourite in the final. But she fought the match successfully and recorded 6::7, 7::6 and 6::4 against Kazakhstan’s Rybakina. The duel lasted over 3 hours.

At the same event, Martincova celebrated her first big success in doubles. Like her compatriot, she lifted the winner’s trophy above her head. Tereza played the tournament with Marta Kostyuk. In the final, they beat Bucsaova and Mihalikova 6:4 and 6:0.

In a far more exotic destination, Linda Fruhvirtova fought last week. The older of the prodigy sisters played a tournament in Chennai, India. Linda was undefeated, even though she was not seeded in the pool and had a very difficult journey.

She passed Liang, Peterson and Gracheva (seeded two), Podoroska and in the final she also took on Linett from Poland as seeded three. Linda had to turn the match around, but in the end it ended successfully for the Czech colours after sets 6::4, 3::6 and 4::6, thus winning the first major WTA title of her career.

The last title of the night was won by the younger of the Fruhvirt sisters, Brenda. She broke her own record after winning her sixth ITF title of the year. No younger player in the history of tennis has ever done that.

But Brenda can’t get enough. She has now extended her streak of matches without a loss to 254 matches and won her seventh title in a row! This time she conquered the W25 Santa Margherita di Pula in Italy.

Brenda’s final opponent was the home team’s Pieri, who surrendered at 4::6 and 0::2. This allowed Brenda to take a celebratory photo with her rightfully incredibly proud mother.
