Formula 1 has returned to Belgium after its summer break and now the home race of championship leader Max Verstappen. The 24-year-old world champion has now become the recipient of the Officer of the Orange-Nassau Dynasty award. At a very young age, this is another great achievement for the Dutchman.

All indications are that the Dutch driver will become the king of Formula 1 again this year and win his second world championship title. He already has a 93-point lead at the top of the championship over his Red Bull teammate Sergio Pérez and a 98-point lead over third-placed Charles Leclerc of Ferrari.

The young driver has taken advantage of the privilege of wearing the number 1 on his car, which can only be worn by the reigning world champion. The last time Sebastian Vettel took advantage of this was in 2014, also in Red Bull colours. Lewis Hamilton did not switch to number 44 and Nico Rosberg retired after winning the title.

The Officer of the Orange-Nassau Dynasty award is the fourth of six awards relating to this noble family. The highest is the Knight Grand Cross, which was awarded to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and former Dutch Foreign Minister Norbert Schmelzer.

“I would like to thank my family and loved ones, but also Red Bull, who have been like a second family to me,” the youngster, who faces a home race at the Zandvoort circuit this weekend, said on his Twitter account. “We did it together,” he added.

The national accolade is another big step for the young Verstappen in a career that has already produced countless great results on the racetrack. Only Sunday’s grand prix will tell if the 24-year-old talent will add another in front of his home crowd.
