What a shame! Marie Bouzkova will not play the Wimbledon semi-finals
Before the match started, Marie Bouzkova was a huge underdog. This despite the fact that she had managed to take on Collins, Riske and Garcia in the opening week of Wimbledon. She was up against a world number two, which was evident on court especially in the second and third sets.
Before the match started, Marie Bouzkova was a huge underdog. This despite the fact that she had managed to take on Collins, Riske and Garcia in the opening week of Wimbledon. She was up against a world number two, which was evident on court especially in the second and third sets.
Ons Jabeur entered the match very well. The 27-year-old won the opening six exchanges, but it was she who lost her serve first in the match. Bouzkova took a 3:2 lead.
The Tunisian player had her first break point opportunity in the eighth game of the first set. But she was unable to take advantage of them and lost her serve for the second time. Bouzkova thus won the opening game, in which she committed only six unforced errors, 6:3 in 42 minutes.
The beginning of the second set, however, did not go as the Czech player expected. She offered her opponent a break point in the first game, to which she could not find an answer. Moments later, the fate of the second set could have been decided, but Jabeur refused the opportunity to go up 3:0.
However, the Tunisian continued her improved performance and after 25 minutes of the second set she took the lead 4:1. The African player eventually prevailed 6: 1, forcing a decisive third act.
The Madrid and Berlin champion, who is currently ranked second in the WTA rankings, left nothing to chance and quickly took a well-deserved 3:0 lead.
The world number two eventually won the third set 6: 1 and can look forward to her first semi-final appearance at Wimbledon. On Thursday, she will challenge German player Tatjana Maria in the final, who will not have much chance of success.
