Zak Brown: Ricciardo to stay at McLaren in 2023
During the Austrian Grand Prix, rumours emerged linking Alpine’s Oscar Piastri to a seat at McLaren for 2023. Specifically, Ted Kravitz came forward with this information after Daniel Ricciardo’s poor results this season. Zak Brown, however, has refuted these rumors.
During the Austrian Grand Prix, rumours emerged linking Alpine’s Oscar Piastri to a seat at McLaren for 2023. Specifically, Ted Kravitz came forward withthis informationafter Daniel Ricciardo’s poor results this season. Zak Brown, however, has refuted these rumors.
With Ricciardo and McLaren’s collaboration not living up to expectations, many believed this information.
However, Ricciardo has a contract with McLaren that expires at the end of 2023, so a scenario where Piastri joins the Woking-based team would require the 33-year-old Ricciardo to leave the team early.
It is unlikely that Alpine would ‘loan’ Piastri to a rival team such as McLaren. A potential vacancy at Williams is a much more viable option for the French team.
In addition, Zak Brown has refuted speculation that we won’t see Ricciardo racing for Mclaren in 2023.
“We will do everything we can to get him back to his best form.”
“We’ll do anything for him because we know he can win us races.“
“Can he do it? That depends on the car we give him.”
“But what we want him to do is clear: to drive at Lando’s level, either slightly ahead or slightly behind.”
He admits last season was not great, but he did manage to win a race. He says he needs to give him a car he feels comfortable in.
Ricciardo’s ninth place in the Austrian GP helped McLaren hold on to fourth place in the Constructors’ Cup. Alpine, which has the same number of points, is in fifth place.
Let’s see if it can overcome its current difficulties. That will determine whether he stays with the team after his current contract expires at the end of 2023.
