Steiner: Schumacher must improve! The German driver has already suffered two serious accidents this year, what did the Haas boss say about him?
Mick Schumacher, in short, is not in a good situation. Not only has he not contributed any points to the Haas team so far, but he has crashed twice in the current season, and crashed very hard. How did the boss of the American team, Guenther Steiner, comment on his performance so far?

Eleventh, thirteenth, twice fourteenth, fifteenth and seventeenth. Plus two retirements in Saudi Arabia and Monaco. That’s Schumacher’s current record this season.
The closest the son of the famous legend has come to scoring points was in Miami. It was here that he was running in the points, only to collide with Sebastian Vettel on the first corner of lap 54 and eventually finish the race some 73 seconds behind the winner. He crossed the finish line last.
Despite this, his teammate Kevin Magnussen has already scored 15 points and is currently in twelfth position in the drivers’ championship, leaving behind, for example, Daniel Ricciardo in the McLaren and four-time champion Sebastian Vettel.
Schumacher, along with Nicholas Latifi in the Williams, is in last place without gaining a single point.
The general rule in Formula 1 is this – if a driver is not scoring regularly, he can at least provide valuable data for the team and, most importantly, try to avoid major crashes.
Yes, Haas has gotten some data from Schumacher so far in terms of developing and improving the monopost, but Schumacher hasn’t been at his best when it comes to crashes. Almost every race he makes a driving mistake. Be it major or minor.
In the attached twitter post below, you can see how he massively wrecked his monocoque in Saudi Arabia.
This accident cost the American team one million dollars, and no sooner had Haas recovered from the somewhat larger budget hit than Mick had another big screw-up.
And that one cost Haas a similar amount. This is how Schumacher crashed in the recent Monaco Grand Prix.
“There are several levels to this situation. The first is that Haas has made huge progress in the last year. Haas is the smallest team in Formula One to suffer from surgery. Mick himself is a very sensitive subject, I can see it in the fan community as well. But if we imagine that Grosjean, Maldonado or Mazepin were causing these accidents, the criticism would be absolutely merciless,” F1 commentator Stevo Eisele told Ruik.
“Schumacher is one of the drivers who has the most media protection. First of all, he is a very nice guy who everyone likes, and secondly, his father’s story is unquestionable. But at the moment he is in a very similar situation to Ricciardo and needs to finally get a good result because the comparison with Magnussen is relentless,” he added.
Haas boss Guenther Steiner spoke to Motorsport about the current situation surrounding Schumacher. And he clearly admitted that the German driver simply has to improve.
“It’s a tricky situation. This is a sport where you just need to perform well. But it’s better to finish outside the points than to break it again. It wouldn’t be good again. But Mick needs to improve,” Steiner said when asked about Schumacher’s performance.
