Red Bull boss Horner: Verstappen or Pérez? I don’t care which of our drivers wins the world title

Ferrari or Red Bull? Or maybe even Mercedes? There is still a big question mark over who will win this year’s constructors’ or drivers’ championship, but Christian Horner has a clear idea. And it doesn’t matter which of the pair of Red Bull drivers it is.

Formula One has now completed seven races, with another fifteen to go before the end of the championship. At the moment, however, it is the Red Bull Racing team that leads the Constructors’ Cup with 235 points.

Second-placed Ferrari has collected 199 points so far, while third-placed Mercedes has 134. As far as the drivers’ championship is concerned, Max Verstappen is the current leader with 125 points and a nine-point lead over second-placed Charles Leclerc.

Just six points behind the Ferrari driver is the second Red Bull driver, Sergio Pérez. And it was on this subject that team boss Christian Horner commented.

“Yes, the Constructors’ Cup is very important for us, but when it comes to the drivers’ championship, both our drivers have an equal chance of success. And frankly I don’t care which one of them wins it in the end,” said Horner about the potential title win, quoted by Motorsport.

“Of course, the season is long and as they say in sport, it’s up and down. But Checo is at the top of his form and he’s putting in some amazing performances. It’s great to have both drivers at the top,” he continued.

Pérez took his third career F1 victory in Monaco and also became the best Mexican driver ever in Formula 1.

Moreover, all three players, Horner, Verstappen and Pérez, say that the atmosphere in the team remains excellent. According to the reigning world champion, it will not affect their relationship even if they fight for the title together.

“Why should our relationship change? We work really well as a team. We always try to optimise our car and we can recognise when one of us simply does a better job. I think that’s very important, we respect each other. And yes, may the best car win in the end,” Verstappen said in an interview with Motorsport.
