The second round of the 2022 season of the MotoGP royal cubature produced a truly infarct spectacle. The Red Bull KTM team scored another success in the rain-affected Indonesian Grand Prix, while Marc Márquez suffered a terrible accident in the warm-up and did not even start the race.

Although at first it looked like the Indonesian Grand Prix would not even take place due to heavy rain and later a thunderstorm, it was still possible to race.

However, the start was delayed by about an hour and ten minutes. Despite the top work of the organizers, the track remained very wet, which was proven many times in the race.

However, Spain’s Márquez was unable to start the Indonesian Grand Prix, as he crashed horribly in the warm-up. After the nasty accident, he was taken to hospital for various tests, and according to the latest reports, Márquez suffered a concussion and had bruised ribs.

Fabio Quartararo made an absolutely perfect exit from his starting slot after all the lights went out each time, and due to the very wet track, the standings were solidly messed up after the start.

After starting second, Miguel Oliveira got behind leader Quartararo and even took the race lead on the run-in to the second lap. However, Jack Miller on the Ducati then took over the race lead on lap two, starting as high as ninth.

Both Suzuki riders also made a fantastic start – Joan Mir was up to seventeenth on the grid, but after three laps had been completed he was up to sixth. Alex Rins, on the other hand, moved up four places from his starting position to fourth.

Current champion Fabio Quartararo was gradually falling down the order, while the leading pair of Oliveira – Miller had already built up a two and a half second lead by the sixth circuit.

The racing on the wet track brought some heart attack moments for the drivers themselves, as they struggled with skidding just in view of the wet track. This was evidenced by the crash of Jorge Martin’s Pramac motorcycle, which went down on lap nine in turn one.

So Martin is not having a good start to this season. The Spanish rider crashed in both the season opener and this race at the Mandalika circuit.

Oliveira then passed the entire starting field midway through the race, with the Portuguese Red Bull KTM driver building a very respectable 3.5 second lead.

Oliveira, Miller, Zarco, Rins, Quartararo, Mir, Morbidelli, Marini, Binder and Bagnaia – that was the order after the eleventh round of the Indonesian Grand Prix.

In the last six laps, the fans watched a great battle for the podium. The Frenchman Quartararo pulled back the lead of the third-placed Johann Zarco and decided to attack his position, successfully.

At that time, race leader Oliveira already had a 4.7 second lead. On lap 17, Quartararo even got into second position ahead of the Australian Miller and immediately started to pull away.

However, the battle for the last podium position continued. With three laps to go, Zarco took advantage of Miller’s worsening pace to snatch third place for himself! Quartararo, it should be noted, set a truly furious pace towards the end of the race, pulling 1.5 seconds off the leader Oliveira in just two laps.

With two laps to go, the fans were treated to a spectacular battle in the middle of the field, with several riders battling for position, specifically eighth place – Brad Binder, Darryn Binder, Aleix Espargaro, Pol Espargaro and Enea Bastianini.

This battle was won by the older of the Binder brothers, Brad. Ninth place goes to Aleix Espargaro, tenth to Darryn Binder, eleventh to Bastianini and twelfth to Pol Espargaro.

The order at the top has not changed in the last two laps, so the victory from the second race of the season belongs to Oliveira. This is another significant achievement for Red Bull KTM, with Brad Binder taking the podium for KTM at the last race in Qatar.

Oliveira was then joined on the podium by Quartararo and Zarco. Miller finished the Indonesian Grand Prix in fourth place, while the fifth and sixth positions belong to Suzuki pilots (Rins, Mir). Seventh place belongs to Franco Morbidell on Yamaha.

“I didn’t expect this at all, in rainy conditions we have problems with our bike. But it was my best race on the water and it gave me a lot of confidence for the next races. I also want to thank all the fans who came to see us here,” Quartararo said in a post-race interview.

“It was an emotional race and a roller coaster. I was chasing Jack for a few laps and looking for the limits that the tires can take. Then I realised that I could still accelerate, but it was not an easy race. The last few months have not been good for me, now I am extremely happy for this victory and I dedicate it to my daughter,” said Oliveira also in a post-race interview.
