Max Verstappen has extended with Red Bull. I love this team, he said

Dutch Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen has renewed his contract with Red Bull. The 2021 world champion will now have a contract until 2028, extending his current tenure by five years. In addition, he is expected to receive a salary of over £40 million a year, putting him on par with his main rival, Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen will drive the number 1 in the new season, having exercised his right to wear the number as the current world champion. And now he’s assured of being employed by Red Bull for a very long time. The Dutchman has been with the team since 2016.

Team boss Christian Horner has also commented on the situation. “Our current focus is on defending Max’s championship title, but this contract also shows the teams long-term planning,” Horner said on the official Red Bull Racing website.

“The decision to stay with the team until 2028 was very easy, the last year has been simply amazing. I love this team,” Verstappen added. He became the first Dutchman in history to win the F1 World Championship and is also the second representative of his country to win the Queen of Motorsport race (the other was his father, Jos Verstappen – ed.).

And the 24-year-old has good memories of Red Bull. In his very first race for the team, he won the 2016 Spanish GP. Since then, he has notched up 20 wins and 60 podium finishes in F1 races. And he’s likely to add more favourable stats in 2022.

The F1 season kicks off on March 20 with a race in Bahrain. And Max Verstappen is likely to be a big favourite again. And with a new contract, he’ll be driving a little bit better again.
