Barbora Krejcikova clearly proved at the tournament in Sydney, Australia, that her successful 2021 campaign was no accident. In the dress rehearsal before the Australian Open, she made it to the final, where she took on Spain’s Badosa. How did the match go?
Barbora Krejcikova ran into J.A. Cristian and Caroline Garcia on her way to the final of the tournament in Sydney. She managed both matches without much difficulty. In the semi-finals, however, she faced Anett Kontaveit, whom she defeated after more than two and a half hours of battle by 0::6, 6::4 and 7::6.
Paula Badosa also put in a great performance. The 24-year-old Spanish tennis player lost only one set in her match with Bencic. She won her matches against Ostapenko, Tomljanovic and also Kasatkina in two sets.
The Spaniard also entered the final match better, as she took Krejcikova’s serve from the very beginning. But she didn’t keep the lead for long and lost her serve the next time. The next break came in the seventh game and Badosa again took the lead.
This time she didn’t lose it anymore, on the contrary she increased it even more. The winner of the Indian Wells tournament won the first set 6:3.
But the beginning of the second set had a completely different course. Coach Ales Kartus’s charge took the lead 2: 0. That was enough for the 26-year-old native of Ivančice to win the second set 6:4. The winner of the match had to be decided in the third set.
It was so close that the Sydney crowd was treated to a tiebreak. Paula Badosa was more successful in the tiebreak, winning 7:4. This gave the Spaniard her first title in 2022.
