The hardest race of his career, Pérez said after the US GP. But it wasn’t because of battles with rivals
Red Bull’s Mexican driver Sergio Pérez scored his second podium finish in a row in Austin, USA, and once again delivered a solid performance. The 31-year-old still managed to hold on to third place behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
Red Bull’s Mexican driver Sergio Pérez scored his second podium finish in a row in Austin, USA, and once again delivered a solid performance. The 31-year-old still managed to hold on to third place behind Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.
“Checo”, as the Mexican’s nickname goes, had to contend with a lot of heat in 56 laps, which also made it difficult for the drivers to drink. “It was the hardest race of my career. I got to that survival mode,” Pérez let his voice be heard immediately after finishing the grand prix.
One of the advertising posters under which the riders were passing then played an almost comical role. The advertisement for alcoholic beverages read: ‘When you drive, never drink’. Of course, the Mexican himself didn’t see this, but the funny pictures were not missed by the formula community.
In recent years, the problems with the drinking system have mainly plagued Kimi Räikkönen, for example, in the Monaco Grand Prix this year. A similar problem occurred in Hungary in 2018. However, we have to take into account that the natural conditions were much worse in the USA.
This makes Pérez’s third position all the more respectable, and the 31-year-old driver confirmed that he is getting more used to the car and fighting for important points in the Constructors’ Cup.
Moreover, in terms of podium finishes, the Red Bull driver is already enjoying the best season of his career. And in the last five races, “Checo” will be looking to add some more Top 3 finishes to his current four. And hopefully he’ll have a drink to go with it.
