Wolff called this decision by the sports commissioners ridiculous. How would you judge Verstappen’s fight with Hamilton?

With the title fight coming to a climax, the nervousness and, last but not least, the emotions are rising. In the São Paulo Grand Prix, we saw a beautiful but tough battle for first place. Of course, between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. So it’s no surprise that this battle has also stirred up some controversy.

After all, Hamilton did dominate the race in Brazil, whereupon, quite objectively, we have to admit that this victory belongs to him quite rightly.

He dominated first in the first practice session and then in qualifying. However, it was from Friday’s qualifying that Hamilton was subsequently disqualified due to an illegal DRS. Better put, Hamilton’s rear spoiler was more than the prescribed 85 millimetres.

As a result, he started Saturday’s sprint from the very tail of the grid, but a fascinating performance saw him finish fifth. On Sunday, however, he only started from tenth place due to a penalty for an engine change.

After just five laps, Hamilton was up to third position and his pursuit drive continued very successfully. He took the lead on lap 59, but on lap 48 we saw a tough battle, or rather a tough defence from Verstappen.

Both drivers then went off the track, with the race officials investigating the fight. As we now know, in the end, they did not rule this action illegal, but that does not sit well with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.

“I don’t want to complain too much because that’s not how the sport works, I don’t see it that way. But I think we took too many hits this weekend in terms of different decisions. Different things could have been decided differently,” Wolff said in an interview with Motorsport.

“Then when a lot of things go against you, I’m just angry about it and I’ll defend my team and my drivers against whatever comes. I’ve always been very diplomatic in the way we discuss things. But diplomacy is over today,” he added.

He further described the decision of the sporting commissioners as ridiculous. However, for many fans on social media, this is merely a racing incident and objectively speaking, if we don’t want to make Formula 1 a non-contact sport, which is not really possible, we can call this decision correct.
