On Saturday, tennis fans can look forward to the women’s singles final at Wimbledon. It will not be without Czech participation, as Karolina Pliskova will challenge world number one Ashleigh Barty. Who will win the match?
Ashleigh Barty is currently ranked number one in the WTA rankings. She could increase her comfortable lead over Naomi Osaka if she manages to dominate Saturday’s duel.
She is looking very good at Wimbledon so far. She has lost only one set so far, in the first round to Carla Suarez-Navarro. On the other hand, she won her matches against Katerina Siniakova, Barbora Krejcikova and Angelique Kerber 2:0.
Karolina Pliskova is currently ranked 13th in the WTA rankings. However, it is already certain that from Monday she will be among the elite ten again. If she wins, she would even move up to sixth place.
On her way to the final, the twenty-nine-year-old native of Louny lost only one set, in a duel with Aryna Sabalenka. She also defeated Tereza Martincova, Liudmila Samsonova and Viktorija Golubicova.
So what to bet on? We can expect an evenly contested match, which will be decided by small details. The paper favourite is Barty, who has won the last three duels between them.
However, at the All England Club, Pliskova has been performing above par. She will certainly have no shortage of motivation as she can win her first career grand slam. That’s why she should win at least one set against the Australian.
