Our number two and seeded eight Barbora Krejcikova entered the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Her opponent was Zarina Dijas of Kazakhstan. The match was greatly affected by an injury to the Moravian tennis player.
The first games did not offer any big surprises, both players were just getting used to each other.
In the third game, the Brno native won her opponent’s serve with her aggressive and precise play, but after a break she lost her serve and the first set was de facto back to square one.
In the fifth game the break came again and after the fifth game the tournament physiotherapist came running to the Kazakhstani player.
When both tennis players returned to the court after a long break, Krejcikova this time managed the service game and led 4::2.
Just as Krejcikova was about to serve out the set, it was announced that Dijasová could not continue due to her injured left calf.
Krejcikova thus advanced to the second round in just 31 minutes and will meet Canadian Annie Leylaha Fernandez.
