Video: Double for Yamaha or Rossi’s big crash! That was the Dutch Moto GP Grand Prix

The next round of the Moto GP royal category brought more than an attractive spectacle! There was a great battle for the podium, with four riders not seeing the finish line. So how did the Dutch Grand Prix at the Assen circuit turn out?

Unfortunately, Franco Morbidelli was unable to take part in the race as he had already injured his left knee in practice and had to undergo surgery. He was replaced by Garrett Gerloff for the remainder of the race weekend, making him Valentino Rossi’s teammate on the Petronas Yamaha Racing Team for this race.

Fabio Quartararo made an excellent start, taking the race lead at the first corner, while the battle for the top position resulted in a significant loss for Maverick Viñales, who dropped down the order.

Francesco Bagnaia also shot out of the gate, still in first position ahead of Quartararo on the first lap. An absolutely top start was recorded by Marc Márquez, who moved up from the last row to eleventh place!

A big mistake was made by Team Suzuki Ecstar rider Alex Rins, who found himself at the very tail of the field due to an off-track excursion.

At the front of the race we watched a wonderful battle between Bagnaio and Quartararo, but the French Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider hasn’t been able to get ahead of Bagnaio yet.

That changed on lap seven, however, when Quartararo finally got back into the race lead. Behind the leading two riders, Takaaki Nakagami was watching it all closely. But Fabio immediately increased his lead at the front of the race and set a truly devastating pace.

On lap eight of the race, however, we witnessed a horrific crash by Valentino Rossi! Fortunately, the legendary racer escaped without any serious injuries, but his bike was badly damaged.

Over the next few laps, Quartara’s teammate Maverick Viñales worked his way back up the order. The Spanish rider on the Yamaha motorcycle was back up to second place in the race by lap 12.

This was then taken from him briefly by Bagnaia, who however had to face a heavy penalty two laps later. He was given a long lap penalty for breaking track limits, which cost him several positions.

On lap fifteen, Australian Jack Miller failed to keep his Ducati motorcycle on the track and became the second rider to have to end his Dutch Grand Prix early.

Iker Lecuona was the next rider to crash in the race. However, this was a very dangerous moment as he was left lying on the track with his machine. The track marshals had to help remove him. Jorge Martin of the Pramac Racing team also failed to finish the race.

Fabio Quartararo won the Dutch Grand Prix after a bravura performance! He was joined on the podium by Viñales in second place – the Yamaha team confirmed its clear dominance in Assen.

With this victory, Quartararo has already increased his lead at the top of the championship to 34 points! He has 156 points to his credit.

Joan Mir, who started Sunday’s race in tenth position, eventually led both Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP riders to the podium. Johann Zarco, currently second in the championship standings, finished fourth ahead of Miguel Oliveira. Bagnaia eventually rounded off his run in this race in sixth position.

Márquez gave a top performance at the Assen circuit for the Repsol Honda team. Starting from the very back of the field, the Spanish rider crossed the line seventh in the standings!

Aleix Espargaro finished eighth, Nakagami ninth and Pol Espargaro rounded out the top ten.
