The year 2021 is like a fairy tale for Barbora Krejcikova. The 25-year-old Moravian is probably having her best season in singles. One of her biggest successes is the final of the tournament in Dubai.
The former world number one in doubles has transferred her excellent form from the hard surface to clay. In the Italian capital, she first defeated Saisai Zheng, before falling to American Kenin.
The fifth player in the WTA rankings is not in an ideal mood at the moment, but even that does not diminish Krejcikova’s success. She defeated the young American 6:1 and 6:4 and celebrated her progress to the eighth round.
After the first scalp of a representative of the elite ten, the Brno native will face Iga Swiatekova. She is one of the biggest favourites of the whole event, which makes her the paper favourite.
If we look at the rankings for 2021, we find Krejcikova in sixteenth position with 978 points. So her participation in the Champions Tournament is still in play.
Besides Krejcikova, we can also watch Karolina Pliskova at one of the rehearsals for the upcoming French Open. She will face an eight-final battle with Russia’s Zvonareva.
