Thirty-five-year-old tennis player Barbora Strýcová announced today the end of her active career. But she would like to say goodbye in front of the audience, preferably at Wimbledon. After that, she’ll be busy raising her son.
Barbora Strýcová had many successes during her active career. She won the singles in Quebec, Canada in 2011 and six years later in Linz, Austria – both were held indoors on a hard surface.
She was even slightly more successful in singles. Here she was even world number one and won 31 events. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, she won the bronze medal in doubles together with Lucie Safarova.
Strýcová played her last match on the WTA circuit at the Australian Open, where she fell to Russia’s Kuznetsova. However, on the continent with the smallest landmass, she also found out about her pregnancy, for which she decided to end her career.
“At first, all I had in my head was that I was going to be a mom, that I was having a baby. The fact that I was going to end my tennis career came later. I was sad about it for a while, but that’s the way it is. Itcame naturally and at my age I guess it’s the way it should be,” Strýcová told iSport.
After the birth of her son, she would like to play one more match. Ideally next year at Wimbledon, where she reached the semi-finals of the singles in 2019. She would like to play in front of a sold-out crowd.
“Of course my dream is Wimbledon. I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but if I could choose, I would love to say goodbye at Wimbledon. That’s where I’ve had the most success, it’s the Mecca of tennis for me,” she added.
