The Russians are starting to dominate the ATP rankings!
Russian tennis is going through a very successful period. Besides Daniil Medvedev, the second man in the rankings, Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev are also in great form. But we cannot forget Karen Khachanov either.
Russian tennis is going through a very successful period. Besides Daniil Medvedev, the second man in the rankings, Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev are also in great form. But we cannot forget Karen Khachanov either.
Already at the end of last year, Daniil Medvedev presented excellent performances. In addition to the title from Paris, he also proved it at the Tournament of Champions, which the Russian dominated without a single loss.
Medvedev reached the final of the Australian Open and won the tournament in Marseille without any major problems. This season, he boasts a record of seventeen wins and three losses.
Twenty-three year old Andrey Rublev is a huge future for Russian tennis. The eighth man in the world dominated the Rotterdam indoor hard court tournament. It was his eighth career title.
Other successes this year include the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the semifinals in Dubai. The native of Moscow scored scalps of Tsitsipas, Fritz, Cilic, Fucsovic and Ruud.
But the biggest discovery of the season so far is Aslan Karatsev. Thanks to the Australian Grand Slam semi-final and the Dubai triumph, he moved from 112th position, where he finished last year, to 27th place in the rankings.
Karen Khachanov should not be forgotten either. He has not had any more success in the current year, but even so, Frederik Rosengren’s ward is still in 24th position on the ATP rankings.
If we look at the rankings from this year, we find Medvedev (2nd), Rublev (3rd) and Karatsev (5th) in the top five places. Only Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas fit between them.
