Up to the grass courts! Two big returns to the ATP carousel and lots of other interesting names
After the clay part of the tennis season, the grass courts will take over. Until mid-June, we will be watching the tennis top on the fastest surface. Only a few events are left on the calendar from the previously prevalent tournament types, but they are definitely worth it. In addition, the legendary Wimbledon rounds off the stage.
Let’s take a look at what tournaments await us this week and who among the world’s top men will be there. We’ll find two players we haven’t heard from in a long time.
The grass court part of the tennis season will be kicked off with two 250 basic category events in the Netherlands and Germany. In Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, two of the world’s elite tennis players, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner, will play.
Two local tennis players, Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor, will also be looking for success. A very interesting event is the return of former world number three Milos Raonic. We haven’t seen him on the courts for two years due to health problems.
The thirty-two-year-old Canadian has very interesting tennis highs. He reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2014 and two years later he even played in the final. Raonic’s name should be the draw of this week and perhaps the entire grass court season on the ATP carousel.
Stuttgart Boss Open
The German tournament was known as the Mercedes Open until 2021. Here too we find many very interesting players. First of all we have to name the world number five Greek Tsitsipas.
The grass-lover reached the quarter-finals here last year. Let’s see how he’s going to be after his transition from the clay in Paris. Let’s recall that he was among the top eight players there a few days ago as well.
Taylor Fritz will be the number two in the sixth largest city in Germany. The American made a very slow start on grass last year and finally reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon. Another favourite is his compatriot Frances Tiafoe, who will face Jiri Lehecka in the second round.
Hubert Hurkacz’s performance will also be worth watching. The Polish tennis player dropped out in the first round here last year, but a week later he conquered a more difficult tournament in Halle. This week in Stuttgart he will be seeded four.
The German tournament will also see one big return to the courts. Last year’s Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios will play his first match of the year. His match is scheduled for Tuesday evening.
