Frankie Edgar’s last ride is over. At 41 years old, he announced the end of his career before the UFC 281 main card. And that it was a great one despite a not so great ending.
In his prime, the American fighter was one of the UFC’s absolute best. After all, he was also the organization’s champion, a belt he even managed to defend once. In total, he had nine title fights in the star organization. Unfortunately, he lost most of them.
Still, Edgar has scored some very valuable scalps in his career. Three times, for example, he defeated B. J. Penn, among others, he defeated Charles Oliveira a few years ago.
In recent years, however, it was clear that his best years were behind him. His chin didn’t hold up as well as it used to. And the defeats started coming in big time. Unfortunately, the next and last one came at UFC 281 in his last fight.
Chris Gutierrez hit Edgar’s chin with a knee two minutes in and it was over. The crowd chanted Edgar’s name. Deservedly so.
Edgar has lost six of his last eight fights. In addition, he’s been stopped by KO/TKO four times, and he’s never lost by those methods before.
The American ends his career with a record of 24-11-1. He entertained fans for many years during his career. He has been in the UFC since 2007.
