Wednesday’s Champions League showpiece between Chelsea and AC Milan ended with a 3-0 win for the home side. Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James scored.
Although the visitors played with a very weakened line-up due to numerous health problems, they were more active on the ball from the beginning. Nevertheless, Chelsea were the first to get on the end of it, with Mason Mount’s hilarious attempt having to be cleared by Ciprian Tatarusanu.
Chelsea then took the initiative and really squeezed the Italians around the 20th minute. Thiago Silva’s header was still fantastically parried by the visiting goalkeeper, but Wesley Fofana’s shot from the ensuing corner was short.
In the 33rd minute the Blues scored a second time after a great combination, but this time the goal was disallowed for offside. Raheem Sterling could have added to the lead in stoppage time, but Pierre Kalulu cleared the ball with a precise save.
Rade Krunic could have punished the home team’s inconsistency in the fifth minute of the setup, but he missed the chance.
The Blues carried their good spirits into a good half and sealed the win in the 57th minute. Reece James’ centre was calmly finished by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Six minutes later, James also scored and the winner was definitely decided.
AC Milan were struggling, their only finish was a shot from the set-up in the first half, and only Rafael Leão’s performance was positive. Chelsea won 3-0 at home and jumped to second place in the table. AC is third, Salzburg is leading.
