Next weekend we will have a busy Oktagon 36 tournament in Germany, after that we will have another busy tournament in Ostrava. But it doesn’t stop there this year.
On December 30th, the Oktagon 38 tournament is scheduled in Prague’s O2 Arena, which will include a middleweight title fight between Patrik Kinclo and Karlos Vemola.
Vémola himself admitted that it will be the best paid fight of his career, and Kincl will be in a similar position. So it’s no surprise that the tournament will be really expensive.
“A tournament like this means tens of millions. That’s already beyond the numbers we could hardly imagine flowing into MMA at all just a few years ago,” said promoter Ondrej Novotny in an interview with iSport.
Holt such a title fight costs something. Add to that the additional fighters and the arena rental, and the expenses have risen rapidly compared to other tournaments.
And because of that, there won’t be a show like there was at Štvanica. “I think that the hard times that everybody is feeling, we are also feeling. And when Karlos says it’s the highest paid match, he’s right and that means there’s not much money left for other things around.
As much as we would like to, we would rather put it into the accompanying content that will precede the tournament. TheHalftime Show is also very demanding in terms of how many seats it will take up,” Novotný added.
