Arsenal won their second tough home game in a row, beating Liverpool 3-2. The visitors managed to equalise twice, but they didn’t react to Bukay Saka’s penalty. The Gunners remain in first place.
Arsenal took the lead from the first chance of the game. Gabriel Martinelli ran in behind the defence and put Alisson Becker through.
The game was entertaining, both teams were in a good mood. Arsenal were having fun with the game, Liverpool were cramping. The visitors gradually took control of the ball, but were not getting into the end zone at all. Ironically, their most dangerous attempt of the first 30 minutes came from William Saliba, whose slip had to be cleared by Aaron Ramsdale.
By the 34th minute, Liverpool were celebrating. Luis Diaz broke away from the defence and Darwin Nunez, alone in front of the goalkeeper, didn’t hesitate.
Just when it looked like it was going to the booths at 1-1, Arsenal broke through in the fifth minute. Martinelli found Bukay Saku in front of an empty net and he didn’t hesitate.
After the change of sides, Martin Odegaard wasted a great chance, which he quickly regretted. On the other end, Roberto Firmino hit the back post.
But Arsenal kept pushing, they kept going for the win. In the 73rd minute, Gabriel Jesus was brought down in the whitewash and a penalty was whistled. Young Saka took the ball and with a cross to the left post gave the Gunners the lead back.
Arsenal took control of the game and won the shootout 3-2.
