Brazil won the preliminary match against Tunisia 5:1. The blemish on the match was the inappropriate racist behaviour of the Tunisian fans who threw a banana at Richarlison. “The fan should be identified and punished. It’s difficult,“ Richarlison said after the game.
Brazil’s national team was introduced during a preliminary match at the Paris stadium against Tunisia. From the first minutes, coach Tite’s charges confirmed their role as favourites. They outplayed their opponents 5:1.
The man of the match was Richarlison, who, apart from one goal and one assist, was the target of racist taunts.
The incident occurred after the goal was scored in the 19th minute. Richarlison went to the corner flag to celebrate and some fans started throwing various objects at him, including a banana.
“Thank God I didn’t notice the incident itself during the celebrations because I don’t know how I would have acted in such a heated moment. The fan should be identified and punished. It’s difficult, ” Richarlison said about the whole moment in one of the post-match interviews.
“This conflict should teach others not to do that, ” the Brazilian star continued. Later, he also published a post on his Twitter account where he complained that such things happen everywhere and every day. Moreover, unless action is taken, it will continue.
Tottenham, for whom Richarlison currently plays, also commented on the incident. The English club condemned the racist behaviour of the fans and expressed its support for the Brazilian striker.
” First and foremost, FIFA strongly rejects any form of racism or violence and has zero tolerance for such behaviour in football. FIFA will investigate the incident that took place in yesterday’s match in Paris,” the FIFA statement, quoted by The Guardian, said.
