Neymar and Mbappe’s relationship at a standstill. They are not speaking to each other, writes France. Neymar himself has added fuel to the fire

If titles were won by name, PSG would have filled the showcase before the season. But it’s not just the names that matter, it’s how the stars get along. And that’s exactly what’s wrong in Paris, because according to a French newspaper, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar don’t get along at all.

When PSG created the magical Mbappé – Messi – Neymar attack last year, many expected it to destroy everything and everyone in its path. It just didn’t quite work out, the Parisians were already out of the Champions League eighth round, which the management wanted to finally dominate.

In the current season, everything looks idyllic. PSG is destroying one opponent after another, winning seven out of eight games and scoring 26 goals. Neymar is the top scorer in Ligue 1 with 8 goals (7 assists), Mbappé is second with 7, Messi has 4 goals (7 assists).

But Mbappé’s 0 assists are a sign of something. According to the renowned French newspaper L’Equipe, the relationship between the French and Brazilian star is currently at a standstill.

Who is the bigger star?

The newspaper reports that “the players do not want direct conflicts, but the relationship is broken and they almost do not speak to each other”. According to L’Equipe, one of PSG’s biggest challenges is how to reconcile the two.

They have not got on completely ideally before. Neymar came from Barcelona to be the star, the one around whom everything revolves. But Mbappé played so well that he stole not only goals and assists, but fame and especially the popularity of the fans, who naturally like him more as a Frenchman.

It was all to culminate in the summer when Mbappé was given extended powers after signing a new contract. After all, he was supposed to have a say in who comes and goes in the team and Mbappé reportedly wanted PSG management to get rid of Neymar.

Penalty kick me

A beautiful demonstration of the cool relationship between the two was shown by the spat over penalties in the game against Montpellier. Mbappé, probably due to his contract, was designated by the management to take penalties, although there are much better and more experienced enforcers in the team like Lionel Messi and Neymar.

So Mbappé stood up for a penalty in the 23rd minute – and didn’t convert. Twenty minutes later, however, the Parisians were awarded another penalty and a problem arose. This time Neymar took the ball, which the Frenchman didn’t like. “Give me the ball! Hey! Ney!,” shouted Mbappé as he shouldered Messi on his way to the penalty.

Eventually, after a brief debate, Mbappé angrily walked off and Neymar converted the penalty. the 23-year-old Frenchman reportedly complained to the management after the match that he should have kicked the penalty.

And Neymar himself added fuel to the fire. In fact, after the match, he retweeted a post attacking Mbappé.

“Now it’s official, Mbappé is the one who has to kick penalties at PSG. It’s definitely a contract thing, because at no club in the world where Neymar is, would the Brazilian be second enforcer, at none! It seems that because of the new contract, Mbappé is the owner of PSG,” read a post on Twitter, with which Neymar agreed.

Interviews

That the relationship between Neymar and Mbappé is not ideal has been indirectly confirmed by the Brazilian himself. He was asked about his relationship with Mbappe at the current national team meeting, but Neymar did not want to answer. “My relationship with Mbappe? Me, no…,” he stammered and left the press area.

This question had not gone unasked by Mbappe, who replied as follows. “There are moments when we are best friends in the world and there are moments when we don’t talk. But we have respect for each other,” the French international assured.

Whether the players can really suppress their egos for the benefit of the team will only be seen at the decisive stage of the Champions League. Last year the Parisians failed to do so, this year they have another opportunity to show that they have learned their lesson.
