The Czech national team had another showdown with Portugal, to whom they lost 0:4 at home.
Portugal managed the duel in Eden without any major problems. They scored two goals in the first half, stopped Patrik Schick’s penalty, added two more goals in the second half and were done.
The Czechs had one more big chance in the first half besides Schick’s penalty, but Antonín Barák did not score with his header.
In the second half, after the third goal of the visitors, the performance looked a bit resigned and the Czechs couldn’t even manage to even the score.
“We won’t praise the players, that’s clear, but we will evaluate everything inside. There were bad performances, undisciplined, we made reckless mistakes. We’ll have to explain that on video. With what we played, we couldn’t think about a proper result,” coach Jaroslav Šilhavý praised his charges after the match.
Patrick Schick said he thought the Czechs played too defensively. However, Šilhavý disagrees.
“I don’t think so. On the contrary, I think we wanted to play boldly, to attack the opponent high, at least in the middle zone. That’s what was happening, but the opponent was outplaying us in those areas and from there they were getting chances. We could be dangerous too, but the transition to defence after losing the ball was bad. Moreover, we made mistakes at the back,” sighed the national coach.
Jakub Brabec was also injured and had to be replaced by Ondřej Kúdela in the first half. The experienced defender will not be available on Tuesday in Switzerland.
“It’s bad with Jakub. It looks like he will leave. We have seventeen players left in the field, we will definitely want to call someone up. You willknow everything on Sunday,” said Šilhavy.
