After shocking the world with his boxing victories over former successful UFC fighters, Jake Paul finally gets a chance for a proper challenge. Who will he challenge in October?
Jake Paul is trying to earn respect on the fight scene
When the famous American youtuber challenged famous fighters active in the UFC years ago, many in professional circles scoffed at him. After he stopped Bellator champion Ben Askren in the first round in April 2021, he was accused of being a former MMA fighter whose domain was primarily wrestling.
But when he beat and finished former UFC champion Tyron Woodley twice that same year, once of which was a stoppage, people in the industry had to start taking him a bit more seriously. Still, there were those who claimed that he was only picking on washed up MMA stars and opponents from the lower weight classes.
So the young YouTube star chose names from the world of boxing to gain respect in the fight scene. However, boxers Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr. postponed the arranged fight due to various reasons, so it looks like he won’t be running away from fighting former MMA fighters.
To help him do that, the legendary Anderson Silva
The MMA Junkie server brought information that the 25-year-old YouTuber will face a true martial arts legend at the end of October. It is none other than the Brazilian “Spider” Anderson Silva.
The Brazilian was a true legend of the sport and a middleweight champion. He still holds the record for the longest title reign in UFC history at nearly 2,500 days! It would seem that Paul, even in the event of his victory, would be disrespected for the fact that he is once again facing an MMA fighter.
The former UFC world champion is on a boxing spree as well
But nothing is as it might seem at first glance. in fact, the 47-year-old Silva has switched to boxing after retiring as an MMA fighter, where he has shown spectacular things. Last year, he won on points against Julio César Chávez Jr. who held the WBC world middleweight boxing titles in 2011 and 2012!
Then in the same year he decapitated former UFC champion Tito Ortiz, finishing him in just 88 seconds in a boxing match. To make matters worse, he also delivered an impressive performance in an exhibition with Bruno Machado this past May.
After the Machado fight, Paul even indirectly challenged Anderson Silva when he tagged him in a Twitter post. An edited photo of Paul as an exterminator aiming a spider in the form of Silva was a hit with his fans.
No venue has yet been set for their clash. However, the star YouTuber’s agency recently confirmed that we’ll know more details soon.
