The situation in the UFC welterweight division, where Jirka Prochazka reigns supreme, has been quite confusing in recent weeks. Have we finally got a resolution to this story?
Prochazka has the entire top of the UFC’s welterweight division grinding their teeth
Jiri Prochazka is a hot commodity after winning the UFC title. Virtually the entire top of the division is interested in fighting him, which of course is not surprising news since he holds the championship belt.
After Prochazka himself recently announced that he wanted to give a rematch to the organization’s veteran, Brazilian Glover Teixeira, Jan Blachowicz in particular has literally gone into a frenzy. Yesterday, we reported on Polák’s message to Dan White asking the UFC boss to give him the Czech samurai.
Practically since the Moravian fighter joined the UFC, Aleksandar Rakic has been grinding his teeth at him, but now he is healing his injury from the fight with Blachowicz. Jamahal Hill, who is already eyeing a move into the Top 5 division, also made his presence known after this weekend’s UFC gala.
One of the serious candidates who wants the scalp of the Czech fighter is also Dagestani phantom Magomed Ankalaev. He holds a streak of nine wins in a row in the UFC and is currently the top three in the division. Ankalaev, who ran over Anthony Smith just over a week ago, also challenged Prochazka, but now it looks like he has a new opponent.
Magomed Ankalaev offered a possible solution to the division’s puzzle
In fact, Ankalaev posted information on his social media that could give a resolution to the puzzle within the UFC’s top welterweight division. This is because the Dagestani is interested in fighting Jan Blachowicz for the position of the next title challenger.
“Just because Poland has 38 million people doesn’t make you a big star, ” Ankalaev wrote in response to Polak’s challenge to White. “The UFC asked me if I wanted to fight you,” he revealed.
“You said yourself that you don’t shy away from fights,” he challenged the Polish legend. “I’m ready as always and I agreed, let’s do it,” he said, tagging UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard.
But the Dagestani giant didn’t stop with the challenges. “You lost your last two fights, you have to earn the title fight,” he responded to Polak’s title loss to Teixeira and his last fight with Rakic.
Blachowicz won the latter, but mainly due to an injury to his opponent. It should also be added that it was Polák who pulled the short end of the stick in the match, even though the duel was quite even. ” Dana White will not save you from me,” Ankalaev continued to provoke the Pole.
The next reaction didn’t wait long. “I’ve already accepted a fight with Polish power,” Ankalaev wrote. “New York or Vegas, it doesn’t matter,” he added, tagging Blachowicz in his last post to sign the fight in question.
Although Blachowicz has not yet responded to the Dagestani’s call, the welterweight may soon get some very interesting fights that will shuffle the cards at the top of the division. So everything is pointing towards the fact that Jirka Prochazka will indeed see a rematch with Teixeira.
