Pilsen can rest easy! Victorians gave Helsinki a beating and are assured of at least the Conference League

Viktoria Plzeň won the second leg of the Champions League second round and secured at least the Europa League group stage after a 5-0 win over Helsinki.

The opening game in Finland was very hard fought. Plzeň quickly took the lead, Helsinki then missed a big chance, but after the change of sides they equalised. The final score was 2:1 for Plzeň, with Jan Kopic scoring from outside the box.

Bojan Radulović shot from inside the penalty area and just missed the front post. On the other side, Lukáš Kalvach shot and the visiting goalkeeper was lucky to kick the ball away.

In the 10th minute, the fans were already celebrating. Kalvach’s centre came down to the front post, where Luděk Pernica crossed the ball into the net. Ten minutes later it could have been two goals, but Radim Reznik’s volley hit only the centre of the net.

In the 21st minute, Viktoria turned the pressure into a second shot, Jan Sýkora made no mistake from the edge of the box. And ten minutes later, Lukáš Hejda ran onto Sýkora’s centre and split the net for the third time. Plzeň was having fun and the three goals logically gave them confidence, while Helsinki were under the blanket.

The score was 3:0 and Pilsen had a four-goal lead. After the change of sides, the game started at a calm pace, with Sýkora trying from behind the whitewash in the 64th minute and narrowly missing.

A thunderous applause then greeted one of the legends of modern history, Václav Pilar, who came on in the 70th minute for the first time since his return from Jablonec. Four minutes later, he converted a scoring chance, which was finished by Sýkora.

And the torture of the Finnish players continued, in the 84th minute substitute Jan Kliment increased the score to 5:0. Pilsen moved on after a big win.
