The second preliminary round of the Champions League is completely played, with the favourites, but also Karabakh and Maccabi Haifa. What were the results on Wednesday night and who is celebrating the qualification?
Bodo Glimt fell somewhat ignominiously to Linfield in the opening game, but left nothing to chance in the return leg and won 8-0. So Norway has the first certain qualifier for the cups, which is not ideal for the Czechs.
On the other hand, Zurich, who were 4: 4 with Karabakh after regulation time, were pleased with the ending. However, the Azerbaijani side scored in extra time and could celebrate a rather surprising promotion.
Despite a good opening game, Slovan Bratislava did not fare as well. The latter held on until the 89th minute of extra time, but then cashed in and eventually missed out on promotion by two goals. Ferencváros thus secured the cup group.
Czech fans can also be happy about the end of Olympiakos Piraeus, who after a 1:1 draw in the opening game were completely burnt out at home and lost 0:4. This loss plays into the hands of the Czech coefficient.
In the other matches, Turkish Fenerbahce fell to Ukrainian Dynamo Kiev after extra time, while Malmö of Sweden surprisingly fell to Lithuanian Zalgiris Vilnius for the second time and was eliminated.
The third preliminary round is scheduled to take place in the next two weeks and the full schedule can be found on the UEFA website.
