VIDEO: Nine year old Nikolas Novak mapped out his journey to his first big fight at the I Am Fighter tournament in a mini-documentary. This is how a new generation of MMA fighters is growing up
To do MMA at the age of nine and even have a fight at the gala of one of the most watched organizations in our country? Unthinkable to most of the public due to prejudice and ignorance. However, Nikolas Novak and his parents had this opportunity and made the most of it.
To do MMA at the age of nine and even have a fight at the gala of one of the most watched organizations in our country? Unthinkable to most of the public due to prejudice and ignorance. However, Nikolas Novak and his parents had this opportunity and made the most of it. To spread awareness and break down preconceptions, they charted his journey to wrestling and the opinions of his coaches in a short documentary.
Nikolas Novak’s first big match
The I Am Fighter organization took an interesting step when it added a children’s fight to its gala, pitting the then eight-year-old Nikolas Novak against the one-year younger Milan Flégr.
The announcement of the fight alone drew a lot of criticism and misunderstanding at the time. For this reason, the editorial staff of Ruik contacted the parents of both boys and the organization itself to explain that all the negations were due to ignorance.
Then, when the actual match took place and people could see how the duel was conducted, many critics’ eyes were opened. One two-minute round didn’t even come to an end when Nikolas knocked out his opponent with 30 seconds left.
We think the documentary can open people’s eyes, says Nikolas’ mom
A short documentary about Nikolas’ journey was announced in advance. However, it was not until Friday, July 15, that it was publicly released. The reason for its creation was simple: “We think it will open the eyes of a lot of parents and people negative about the sport and the struggles of children .”
Besides, it should be noted that this is a big deal for Nikolas himself. After all, he has a clear goal and he’s going for it. He would like to fight in the famous UFC organization one day. And it is his determination and attitude that sets him apart from his peers, even according to the people who guide him.
One of Nikolas’ coaches, for example, is the successful and great wrestler Artur Omarov, who himself was previously against such fights. “My opinion was negative, I didn’t have much sympathy for it. I thought the kid was being pushed by his parents or some group to train like that. But when I met Niky, I changed my mind because he breathes for it,” Omarov admitted.
Pavel Kravec, another of Nikolas’ coaches, explained in the documentary that the rules for children’s wrestling are really limited: ” For kids, it’s basically all about wrestling and body punching, so it’s more complicated.”
