Representing Slovakia? It’s tempting! Especially when it’s a team I would feel at home with, said Hašek
Ivan Hašek is still associated with Czech football, although he has not been active there for many years. But now there is talk that he could take over the Slovak national team, which fell twice to Kazakhstan in the last Nations League matches. What did the experienced coach say about the position?
Ivan Hašek is still associated with Czech football, although he has not been active there for many years. But now there is talk that he could take over the Slovak national team, which fell twice to Kazakhstan in the last Nations League matches. What did the experienced coach say about the position?
After the dismissal of Stefan Tarkovic as coach of the national team, the president of the Slovak Football Association Ján Kováčik clearly declared that the next coach will be from abroad.
No name has been mentioned, but there is still talk that Ivan Hašek, who has coached in the Arab world for the past decade, could become the new coach.
How are the negotiations going? According to Hašek, there are none. “We have not spoken yet. All I know is that a temporary coach has been recalled in Slovakia. Later I learned that I am supposedly one of the candidates. If we get in touch with the SFZ president, maybe he will confirm it to me,” he told Slovak Sport.
The former Czech national team coach himself would like to become Slovakia’s coach, so it is realistic if the other side is interested.
“It’s tempting. It would be for any coach. Especially if it’s a team I would feel at home with. I could speak Czech or even Slovak. Plus, you have a team with potential. And I’m not just talking about the A-team, but also the 21. It would be a challenge for me. However, as I said, I’m still waiting for the call,” he added.
Hašek is no longer the coach of Lebanon, where his contract has expired, but an extension is not unrealistic, so everything is probably up to Kovacik’s decision.
