He almost had the victory in his pocket, but half a minute before the end he made a fatal mistake and Jiří Procházka finished him on a rear naked choke. Glover Teixeira now explained what happened at that fateful moment.

Brazilian veteran Glover Teixeira held the UFC championship belt for just one fight, as he was humbled by Czech Jiri Prochazka in early June.

But the fight was going well for Teixeira and it was all coming down to him winning on points. However, the Brazilian then made a fatal mistake, after which Procházka stopped him.

“It was just instinct. He put his head down and his neck literally went into my guillotine. I didn’t try to get the position, he literally offered it to me. But I could have been much more patient at that moment. I got my chance and I literally jumped at it. In the end, he got me the same way.

Seeing how I screwed up just makes me cry. But a lot happens in a fight and you always have to take something from it and learn from it. Of course there are things I could have done differently and I have to learn from that. I’m very critical of myself,” Teixeira said.

Prochazka’s win came out of nowhere and that’s part of what makes this one of the best fights of the year. But neither fighter is happy with their performance.

The Czech Republic has its champion and now the only question is who it will fight next. There are more options, so let’s be surprised.
