From England to Italy, from Italy to England and from England to Italy. This is how Romelu Lukaku travels around Europe
It has been talked about for a while and now it seems to be becoming a reality. Lukaku is returning to Inter Milan. He’s leaving Chelsea on a one-year loan with no option for a possible transfer. Raheem Sterling, who Chelsea are currently pursuing, is expected to be the replacement for the London outfit.

The Belgian giant has played for Chelsea London in 3 different seasons. He first arrived from Anderlecht in 2011 and played 9 games without scoring a goal. The following season, he went on loan to West Brom where he thrived shooting and scored 17 goals in 35 competitive games.
He added 2 more games for Chelsea a year later. After that, however, he moved to Everton, first on loan, which subsequently turned into a transfer. There he played 168 games over 5 years, scoring 87 times.
He also spent two full seasons at Old Trafford. On August 8, 2019, a transfer to Inter Milan came, where the Belgian was very popular. He scored 64 goals in two seasons in which he started 96 matches. These are, of course, awesome numbers.
Inter shot to the title in the 2020/21 season and form abounded. Well, it was Chelsea’s turn again after years, where Lukaku came in a huge phase and everyone believed that this time it would work out. But the opposite was true. Lukaku himself mentioned Inter several times in an interview and his thoughts seemed to stay in Milan.
At Chelsea, he only hit the target 15 times in 44 games and that marked his worst league season in 10 years. This team just isn’t for him. Moreover, he didn’t win over Thomas Tuchel or the fans in London with his statements. Add to that the fact that the Belgian giant came for €113 million, and it’s no wonder that there has been speculation for some time about a return to Inter, where he thrived most and where he himself, at least subconsciously, wanted to return.
So he left on a one-year loan, without an option for a subsequent transfer. He is to earn 8 million euros. If he picks up where he left off at Inter, there will be plenty to look forward to. However, the Belgian is currently struggling with an ankle injury, which caused him to come on as a substitute in the 26th minute of the last Nations League game. It shouldn’t be anything serious.
