The celebrations from Jose Moutinho’s fourth European trophy started right after the final whistle. The Romans ran out and celebrated their first international trophy, as the previous two finals in the club’s history had ended badly.
But the cameras noticed something strange, namely the behaviour of Gianluca Mancini, who didn’t seem to understand the joy of his teammates. Immediately after the end of the game, he was embraced by Bryan Cristante, who was incomprehensibly pushed away by Mancini.
The highlight of Mancini’s behaviour came after the trophy presentation. As the Italian international held the trophy in his hand, teammate Felix Afena-Gyan approached him with a smile. Mancini first knocked the young striker down, then punched him with his fist.
In doing so, Mancini was actually the hero of the match. He didn’t allow striker Cyril Dessers to have a better chance for the entire ninety minutes, and he had a hand in the only goal of the game. He found Nicola Zaniola behind the defence, who only beat the goalkeeper.
However, the situation seems to have passed with a smile. Afen-Gyan later took a photo with Mancini, and both surprised Mourinho during the press conference. On the other hand, it’s definitely worth reflecting on the AS stopper’s behaviour, as it wasn’t the first time he attacked a teammate.
