Everton manager Frank Lampard has been fined £30,000 (CZK 870,000) by the Football Association. He was fined for comments he made after his team’s defeat in the Merseyside derby in April.
Lampard was angry after the 0-2 defeat in April that referee Stuart Attwell did not award a penalty for a tackle on Anthony Gordon. He stated that Liverpool would have kicked the penalty if Mohamed Salah had fallen as well as Anthony Gordon.
Gordon, who received a yellow card for simulation in the first half, fell after apparent contact with Joel Matip, but Attwell did not award a penalty or a second yellow card.
The FA statement read.
“The Everton manager made the comments after the Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday 24 April 2022 and denied that they constituted improper conduct because they suggested bias and/or attacked the integrity of the match referee – or refereeing in general – and/or brought the game into disrepute in breach of FA Rule E3.1.”
Lampard said in a post-match interview. For me, it’s a penalty. You don’t give those here. If it was Mo Salah on the other side, he would get a penalty. I’m not trying to cause conflict, it’s just the reality of football.”
The Toffees have appealed to the Professional Referees Council for the second time this season over the decision not to award a penalty.
In March, after another official complaint, the club received an apology from PGMOL boss Mike Riley for not whistling Rodri’s hand in the home defeat to Manchester City.
