Ivan Buchinger is one of the biggest stars of the Oktagon MMA organization. In the past he has received offers from the UFC, the most prestigious organization in the world, but the Slovak has always refused. Why was that?
Today, Ivan Buchinger is rocking in the Oktagon organization, where he is collecting titles. On Saturday, he faces one of the toughest fights of his career when he takes on Losen Keita.
“He’s a very skilled fighter. He’s a very good fighter. I could see in his eyes how confident he is. He’s not afraid of getting knocked out in a shootout. He will definitely be a strong opponent,” Buchinger told Kaocko.cz.
But if we go back in time, the Slovak fighter’s path could have been different. And that was if he accepted the offer of the UFC, which was interested in him.
According to his words, he has been approached by the UFC at least five times in the past. Why didn’t he accept the contract? “I was around 20th in the world rankings at the time and the offer from the UFC really came. It was just on terms that I didn’t accept. I was making better money in M-1, plus I was perfectly happy in Spirit.
In Germany they arranged everything I needed, from sparring partners to housing. I wouldn’t get anything like that from the UFC,” he added.
The UFC only offered him $8,000 per fight and an $8,000 bonus if he won. But both are tax-free. No wonder he made the decision he did.
