A thrilling London derby, Everton’s win over Chelsea and Burnley’s turnaround against Watford all featured in the 35th round of the Premier League. How are things shaping up at the top and bottom of the table? What about fourth place and the Champions League?
The fight for the title
Nothing has changed at the top of the table. Manchester United overcame Leeds 4:0, Liverpool cruised to a 1:0 win against a rampant Newcastle. Citizens remain first, the Reds are one point behind.
Both teams have four games to play before the end of the season. The luck is in Manchester, who will play with Newcastle, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa, while Tottenham, Aston Villa, Southampton and Wolves await Liverpool.
The fight for the Champions League
A trio of teams are battling for the fourth place guaranteeing the Champions League. Tottenham beat Leicester 3-1, Arsenal dominated the London derby with West Ham 2-1 and Manchester United beat Brentford 3-0.
Arsenal have a two-point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham with four rounds to go, and both teams will clash at Spurs in ten days’ time. Manchester are only theoretically thinking about the Top 4, they are six points behind and have two more games to play.
The fight for salvation
Big things have been happening in the relegation zone as well. After a year, the pair of Norwich City, Watford will return to the Championship, while Burnley and Everton improved and Leeds United got entangled in the fight for survival.
Eighteenth place currently belongs to Everton, who beat Chelsea 1-0 on Sunday. Two points ahead of them are Burnley (beating Watford 2: 1 at the weekend) and Leeds (losing 0: 4 to Manchester City). The Toffees have one game in hand against both opponents.
